Urban Portraits. A spatial ethnographic Atlas. Fieldwork.
Research Project. Spatial Ethnographic Cartography. 2012
This project is part of the field work undertaken to generate Urban Portraits, a practice-based research project to construct spatial ethnographic Atlases portraying personal geographies, rituals, daily routines and imaginative spaces of individual Senior Citizens. Over a period of 3 months we undertook explorative walks with individual Senior Citizens in Stuttgart, Germany. They curated the walks with the mission to show us their everyday world. In Ms Verbena's (not her real name) case her daily routine evolved around her local neighbourhood. Although extremely agile, she made the decision to root herself in her local context, to get to know it intimately and to get actively involved in it. Although the geographic distance only stretched over 500m, the density of experiences and localities and their meaning was more akin to a small cosmos.
